Our Team

Stephen graduated with a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Birmingham, in 1990. Following graduation Stephen left the U.K. for Japan to begin a 15 year career in engineering. Transferring to Hong Kong in 1992, Stephen continued to apply his knowledge of mechanics, electricity, semiconductors, and optics providing technical support in China to the high technology & high precision manufacturing industries. Following the financial crisis of 2008, Stephen's passion turned to education where he found rewards tutoring Physics, Maths and Science.

Coming from an engineering background and having tutored for more than a decade, Stephen has not only broad experience but brings science to life with real world context and anecdotes. Stephen departs from sterile old schoolbook learning and cultivates an enthusiasm for science in his students with hands on experiments that students can practice themselves, and leverages on dynamic multimedia resources. Stephen's teaching style relies heavily on demonstration and application to consolidate a student’s grasp and appreciation of the subject matter. Stephen also applies care and context by placing emphasis on clear explanations of fundamentals. He also is experienced with guiding students on specific assignments such as devising experiments, writing laboratory reports and computer programming, which can be critical components for senior level Physics students taking the IB Diploma program.

Stephen would be sharing his expertise in guiding General Sciences and Mathematics students as well as supporting senior students mastering physics for public examinations.

With a love of the outdoors, Stephen enjoys camping in his free time. He also plays traditional Celtic & English tunes on an Irish tin whistle, he enjoys tinkering with open-source computer operating systems and is partial to solving Sudoku and Logic puzzles to keep his brain active.
