Our Team

Timothy’s secondary education was here in Hong Kong where he obtained the IGCSE qualifications and the IB Diploma. He then went to the UK and attended the University of St Andrews where he read English Literature, Philosophy and Theology. After graduating, he returned to Hong Kong and began teaching immediately. He then obtained his Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Sunderland and is a permanent teacher in Hong Kong.

Timothy’s passion for education coincided with his passion for English. It was his enthusiasm for books which has first spurred him to become a teacher. He believes that effective learning occurs through dialogues and holds a constructivist approach to teaching. The aspect he enjoys the most about teaching is to see the light bulb flash – the moment when the student finally understands. Seeing students generate their own questions is the empirical proof that real learning is taking place.

University of St AndrewsThe different subjects Timothy has been teaching have suited his teaching philosophy well. He has been teaching English, Philosophy and Religious Studies ever since graduating from university and is highly experienced in all the major international curricula: IB (DP and MYP), A-Level, I/GCSE, SAT, ACT, IELTS and Common Entrance Exams. He is also an expert in instructing students for TOK (Theory of Knowledge) and Extended Essay. He can also support students in writing their personal statements for a variety of subjects and can give constructive advice on how to prepare for school interviews.  At ARCH, Tim is an instructor for English Language and English Literature at all levels. He also provides pastoral guidance for TOK and Philosophy as well as Religious Studies.

Timothy enjoys doing a lot of sports and outdoor activities such as running and hiking. He also enjoys traveling and reading.
